1) AVRIL LAVIGNE 4TH ALBUM IS GONNA BE RELEASED IN MARCH 2010, INSTEAD OF NOV 2009!! =((

Reasons:-

AVRIL LAVIGNE confirmed in a statement that she and fellow Canadian rocker, Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley, have separated.

According to reports, Lavigne is apparently so determined to turn the page on the relationship, she has opted to cut tracks from her forthcoming CD. Whibley, 29, is said to have produced eight of the nine songs recorded for the album at the couple's studio in Tarzana, Calif.

A friend told Us Weekly, "She is going to do new songs that don't have his mark on them. She wants no trace of him."

2) KIMI RAIKKONEN COULD WALK AWAY FROM FORMULA ONE!! ='((

Reasons:-

Kimi Raikkonen has suggested he could walk away from Formula One after losing his place at Ferrari to Spain's Fernando Alonso.

"So far I have not really talked too much about what I will do next as I still have time to make my decision and I will let you know when I have," the 2007 world champion said at the Japanese Grand Prix on Thursday.

"For the moment, I haven't decided what I want to do next, whether I want to continue racing or not.

"I had a contract for next year, but now I don't, so that changes things. So maybe I race, maybe I do not," added the Finn.

Ferrari announced on Wednesday that Renault's double world champion Alonso would be joining the team next year and Raikkonen leaving, despite having a
contract for 2010.

Raikkonen suggested that commercial issues had played a part in his departure, with Spanish bank Santander arriving as a major Ferrari backer.

"You can ask them but of course in F1 even if you have a contract there is always a lot of money involved and there can always be different options in life and that's what happened," he said.

"There's not just one reason for the whole thing."

The Finn has been strongly linked in the paddock rumour mill to a return to McLaren, the Mercedes-powered team he left at the end of 2006. However,
McLaren sources said nothing had been agreed.

Raikkonen told reporters he had always had a good relationship with McLaren, whose second driver is Finland's Heikki Kovalainen at present, and recognised
that partnering current champion Lewis Hamilton was a possibility.

"If I do decide to stay in Formula One, I wouldn't go to any of the small teams, where I would not have the chance to fight for the championship," he said.

"If I race next year, that would be my goal, otherwise there is no reason to be in Formula One. I achieved what I wanted, but if I race, then of course I want to win more races and championship titles."

The Finn has also taken part in a round of the world rally championship this year and that could be another avenue to explore.

"There's a chance to do that, but there's as much of a chance that I continue in Formula One," he said. "I will decide before the start of next year for sure."

3) SINGTEL WINS RIGHT TO "EPL, ESPN, STAR SPORTS!!" ='((

INGAPORE: Singapore Telecommunications Ltd (SingTel) has won the rights to air Barclays English Premier League matches across its platforms, as well as
exclusive broadcast rights to ESPN STAR Sports for mio TV.

In a statement released on Thursday, SingTel said the rights would allow it to broadcast EPL matches on mio TV, the Internet and mobile applications for
three years starting August next year.

Asia's leading telecommunications company said it has also secured rights to a suite of sports networks and services from ESPN STAR Sports for its mio TV
customers.

This means it will have the rights to show programme offerings under ESPN, which include the FA Cup, Formula One, the Australian Open, Wimbledon and the US Open Golf Championship.

A new 24-hour sports news channel, called ESPNEWS, is also slated for broadcast on mio TV from next month.

SingTel said other exclusive sports services will be unveiled soon.

SingTel Singapore CEO Allen Liew assured viewers that charges will be comparable to what sports fans are currently paying to their cable TV operator.

Reds striker would be happy to finish career at Anfield

Liverpool striker Fernando Torres has revealed he does not envisage ever playing for another Premier League club, especially Manchester United.

Torres has made a stunning impact since joining Liverpool from Atletico Madrid in 2007 and has scored 58 goals in 93 appearances for the club.

He has also enjoyed an impressive start to the new season, netting eight goals to date, including a hat-trick in last week's 6-1 thrashing of Hull City.

Reds boss Rafa Benitez recently admitted that rival Premier League sides had enquired about the Spain ace over the summer, with Manchester City and Chelsea
rumoured to have shown an interest.

However, the 25-year-old would not countenance leaving Anfield for another English club, particularly old adversaries United.

"I can understand the feelings between Man Utd and Liverpool," Torres told Sport magazine when asked about the chances of playing for the Premier League
champions.

"I'm a foreign player, but I know how the Liverpool fans feel and I remember the welcome I had when I arrived - it was amazing.

The striker plans a long-term English stay.

Liverpool striker Fernando Torres has revealed that he is not planning a return to Spain any time soon and could even see himself remaining in England for another decade.

"I think I have four more years of my contract here and I'm really happy. I don't think about coming back to Spain now," he told Sky Sports News.

"I don't know - maybe in a couple or in ten years! But I'm really happy in England, I would like to play in England for a long time."

As for his partnership with Steven Gerrard, Torres would like to see the England man playing back in his role behind the striker, after the skipper has lined up in a more withdrawn central midfield role in some recent games.

"Stevie's playing in the middle now, a little bit lower, because we have players in that position - Mascherano is coming back from his national team with an injury," he said.

"I hope that Mascherano will be fit and that Stevie can play between the lines because he's a very, very important player for us in that position. He's making a lot of goals and giving assists to everyone.

"He's the key player for us and if he can play close to the box it wil be better for the team."

The Spain star is also doing his best to curb his onfield dissent and says that he will be focusing more on the game rather than any disputes with match officials - particularly given the difficulty of their jobs.

"This is a mistake I have to try to not do again," he said of his recent bust-ups with referees.

"I have to stay focused on football, try to be focused on the game and my mates and forget the referee, because he is doing his job.

"I know how difficult it is to be a referee. They have probably the more difficult job because all the people can never stay happy with them - always 11 will be happy and 11 will be angry with the referee.

"So we have to help the referee and I'm sure, being like this, the referee will help and protect the players."

As for his hopes for the year, Liverpool winning the title and Spain winning the World Cup would certainly be something he would enjoy.

Torres said: "I have never played with a better player than Stevie - for me he really is the best in the world.

"If Rooney can get an understanding with him, that will make England one of the most dangerous attacking forces in the world. He runs into space like no other player in the world and he can find you with a pass from 50 yards.

"I have the advantage of playing with Stevie week in and week out. But Rooney is a good enough player to find an understanding with him.

"I can guarantee there will be no defence in the world that's not scared of them. When a nation wins a major tournament there are always two players who form a devastating understanding.

"You had Ronaldinho and Ronaldo, Del Piero and Totti and, most recently, the understanding I had with David Villa. That is the sort of class I know Stevie and Wayne can be in if they get that understanding.

"They are world class and have the attributes to complement each other very nicely.

"But, most importantly, they show passion when playing for their country and you can't win a tournament without that."

Torres told the Mirror: “I don’t pick up the phone if I don’t recognise the number. Whoever it was had been very insistent – and that evening, a Sunday night, I rang back. There was no answer but a couple of seconds later, whoever it was returned the call.

“’Hello Fernando’ said a Spanish voice at the other end, ‘do you know who this is?’ ‘No’ I replied. ‘You mean, you’d ring a random English number when you don’t even know who it is?’ the voice said. ‘Not normally, no,’ I said, ‘but I’ve had three calls from this number and I want to know who it is.’ ‘It’s Rafa Benitez.’

“There wasn’t much conversation – not from me, at least. My responses were to the point, short and cold. Too cold. Off hand. I’m amazed he didn’t tell me to get lost.

“My mind was racing, trying to place the voice, to decide if it really was Benitez. But how should I know when I had never spoken to him before? He didn’t stop talking. He explained what his plans were and he told me that he had decided that I was the player he wanted to be Liverpool’s centre-forward. He needed to know if I was committed enough to the idea for him to fight for my signature and start negotiating with Atletico Madrid.

“I didn’t know what to think; my mind wasn’t clear, it was spinning. I was thinking that maybe it was a mate of mine fooling around or some impersonator
trying to catch me out.

ONE talented Spaniard may be heading for the Anfield exit door but Liverpool’s most valuable import insists he has never been happier.

Fernando Torres will return to his homeland for tomorrow’s friendly against Espanyol looking to build up his match sharpness ahead of the new Premier League campaign.

The prolific frontman only returned from his extended summer break on the eve of the Reds’ Far East tour but he looked like he had never been away.

He produced a dazzling 10-minute cameo against Thailand before opening his account during a half-hour burst in the 5-0 win over Singapore.

After being hampered by hamstring problems last season, Torres is on a mission to make up for lost time.

“I want to forget all my injury problems from last season and I want to play in every single game this season – be it the league, the Champions League, the FA Cup or the League Cup,” he said.

“Based on the quality of this squad, we can go very far and win many trophies.

“All I want is to score more goals to help the team win more trophies.”

Much has been made about Liverpool’s lack of firepower with Andriy Voronin, David Ngog and rookie Krisztian Nemeth the only possible alternatives.

Robbie Keane hasn’t been replaced since he returned to Spurs in January but Torres insists he is happy leading the line on his own.

“Playing up front alone has its challenges but I’m used to it since my days at Atletico Madrid,” he said.

“I don’t mind playing alone or with another striker. I don’t really think about it. As a striker, you are playing for the team and what is more important is that you score goals and help your team win the game in the end.

“I don’t think we need to sign any other players. We have already bought good players such as Glen Johnson whom I believe is a good signing for Liverpool.

“We don’t need to buy new players to prove that we are capable of winning.”

Torres admits he is relishing the prospect of renewing his partnership with Steven Gerrard following the skipper’s return to the Reds squad after his
court appearance.

“Gerrard is the best player in the world and is a special friend to me,” Torres said.

“We have this special understanding between us on the field. He can read my mind and I can read his.

“He is always looking out for me on the field. Once I make a move, he will try and pass the ball to me. So far our partnership has worked very well.”

Xabi Alonso may have decided he wants to cut short his stay on Merseyside and move to Real Madrid but Torres insists he won’t be lured away.

The striker, who is under contract until 2013, is desperate to win silverware and believes he will achieve his dreams at Anfield.

“I have never thought about leaving the club,” he added.

“My team in Spain is Atletico Madrid and my team in England is Liverpool.

The Spanish star has spoken for the first time as a Real Madrid player.

Xabi Alonso has completed a €34 million move from Liverpool to Real Madrid after weeks of speculation concerning his future at Anfield.

The 27-year-old had his first training session with Real today and spoke for the first time as a player of the club tonight at a press conference at the
Santiago Bernabeu.

"This is a very happy day for me, a really big step in my career, to get to a great club like Real from another great club like Liverpool," Alonso said.

"I really wanted this day to come and I am very happy to be part of this club."

Xabi Alonso's transfer to the Spanish capital took weeks to come to reality, but the player notes that he was always hopeful he would sign for the Merengues.

"I did not hold all the cards in my hand but I was trustful I could leave and what better club than Real Madrid?

"Some time ago I became determined to leave and when the Real Madrid opportunity came along, I spoke to Liverpool about it.

"The ending was the expected one. I am here and very happy."

The new Real acquisition, who will travel with the rest of the squad to Toronto, explained how he was welcomed by his new team-mates at today's training.

"They received me well. I arrived a bit late and I was received with applause," he noted. "As days go by, I will know them better and they will know me
better. I have never had problems anywhere."

Alonso stated he was not able to say goodbye to his Liverpool club colleagues, but that it should happen in the near future.

"My farewell was very quick. It all happened very fast and I did not have time to say goodbye," Alonso said. "I want to return to say goodbye to my

"I accept the challenge. I will try to bring everything I know, give solutions to my team-mates, balance to the team and make the ball go from one side to the other," Alonso stated.

"This is a project to make big things. I believe the adopted formula is positive, with world-class players."

Xabi Alonso has paid tribute to Liverpool after departing for Spanish giants Real Madrid.

The Spaniard finally completed his move to Madrid after weeks of speculation saying he was after a fresh challenge.

He did however, thank the Reds for making his five years at the club so special.

"It's a very happy day for me," said Alonso. "It's an important step in my career to come to a club like Real Madrid. I'm very happy to be part of this club and I was very excited for this day to arrive. It's the best opportunity for me to develop as a footballer.

“I am very grateful to Liverpool fans, they were very warm during my five years," he added.

"It will be really difficult to match their appreciation. I really enjoyed those five years. But a few months ago I took that decision as I thought it was the right moment to find a fresh challenge, to look for a new club. That's when Real Madrid came along. Luckily a deal has been done and I'm very happy.

"It is a personal challenge I felt is necessary for my football career. I felt it was right, so I looked for a change, for a new experience and, when Madrid came in, that's when I decided to come back to Spain."

The transfer was one of the most protracted deals of the summer but Alonso claims he always believed he would be at the Bernabéu before the start of the season. "I didn't have all the cards in my hand but I was confident. A while back I became determined to leave. The end result was what I wished for, here I am and I am very happy."

Reports suggest Alonso's relationship with the Liverpool manager, Rafael Benítez, disintegrated after he professed his desire to leave. However, Alonso says he has nothing but respect for his former manager.

"I have repeated over and over again that the relationship was a professional one, of mutual respect, a normal one between coach and player," he said. "I respect him and thank him for the opportunity he gave me.

"The goodbyes were quite brief, everything happened very quickly and I didn't have time to say goodbye properly. I want to return to say goodbye to my team-mates and Rafa. As everything was very quick I hardly had time so as soon as I can I will say goodbye as I should have done.

"I want to thank them for everything they gave me but now I am starting a new stage in my career. I'm very excited. Five years is a big deal in a club like Liverpool. I learnt a great deal, had a great experience, played in the Champions League every year and won one. I'm arriving at Madrid more mature and with more experience."

Wanna snap my photo for wat?! Im realli Liverpool new manager izzit..?! hahazz..!! =p Anyways, a while laterr, Yinnn, bro & Suraiyah came.. Yinnn & bro are "Man Utd aka Man Whore" fans!! Soo, i told them to go chill @ "Man Utd Cafe"!! hahazz..!! =p Oohh..!! I even bought "KOP Comes To Asia Mag, Cape & Scarf!!" *Luv It!!* =)) Moments laterr, they appeared!! WooHoo!! 26th JuLy- Aarrgghh!! The moment every LiVeRpOoL Supporters in S'pore have been waitin' for!! => "LiVeRpOoL FC vs Singapore" @ Kallang Stadium!! *SCREAMS* =)) Well.. I went there by cab.. The driver, a mly uncle asked me wat event is happenin' @ the Stadium.. I told him everythinz & we started talkin' bout football all the way throughout my journey to the Stadium.. =)) I reached there bout 4plus.. By then, lotsa fans were oreadi there!! *faints* The Sun was blazin' hott..!! I even asked the security guard how to get to my entrance lahzz.. Kinda feel lost.. hahazz..!! Upon reachin' the gate, i quickly walked in & was damn happyy dat "Grandstand Lower" wasnt packed!! *AwEsOmE* I was seated @ Grandstand Lower 1st row, directly above them!! *faints* Shd hv bought a drink b4 comin' in lahzz.. Was soo *DEHYDRATED* =( Moments laterr, Liverpool players went to inspect the field.. The whole Stadium filled wit "Red & White" cheered & sang all the Liverpool songs & we did the Kallang Wave many timess too!! It reali does feel as if im @ Anfield!! =)) Juz dat, there's noo Kallang Wave in Anfield!! hahazz..!! 18th July- Had a "Mini Advanced B'dae Celebration" @ Grandma's house!! Mum bought "Secret Recipe Chocz Indulgence Cake" & CuTe Sis baked for me "beautiful chocz cupcakes with frostin'!! She failed twice coz the cupcakes were burnt but she nv gave up!! & Guess wat..?! The 3rd time was *Perfect*!! Its soo "Chocolatey" & i luv the frostin' coz its isnt frozen but creamy!! =)) Thxxx Soo much!! *Grins Evilly* =)) After cam-whorin' & cake-cuttin' sessions, Me + Yinnn + cute Sis + her bf went to "MAK'S PLACE" for dinner.. Standard Chartered bank will replace the Danish beer Carlsberg as soccer club Liverpool soccer club's primary sponsor next season in a deal worth 80 million pounds ($134 million) over four years.

Carlsberg had sponsored the 18-time English champions since 1991 but had only been paying about 7 million pounds annually in recent years for the right to appear on the club's jerseys.

Liverpool managing director Cristian Purslow said Monday the cash injection will speed construction of a new stadium. Since buying Liverpool in 2007, American owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett Jr. had been surprised by the club's inability to exploit its global status through commercial deals.

After three years of marriage, Avril Lavigne and Deryck Whibley have split.

"She dumped him and told him she was leaving him. She wants to move on," a source tells the new Us Weekly, adding that Lavigne, 25, forced him out of
their $9.5 million, 12,000-square-foot estate in L.A.'s Bel Air. "Divorce papers will be filed any day now."

Whibley, 29, "is crushed," by her decision.

Pop rocker Avril Lavigne has confirmed she is separating from her husband of three years, Sum 41 lead singer Deryck Whibley.

Avril posted a message on her personal Web site on Thursday afternoon, confirming the reports the couple had split.

"Deryck and I have been together for 6 and a half years. We have been friends since I was 17, started dating when I was 19, and married when I was 21. I am grateful for our time together, and I am grateful and blessed for our remaining friendship. I admire Deryck and have a great amount of respect for him. He is the most amazing person I know and I love him with all my heart," she wrote.

"Deryck and I are separating and moving forward on a positive note," she continued.

-Avril Lavigne didn’t mean to start recording a new album. “It just happened,” she says of the still-untitled November 17th release. “I made a record without even feeling like I made a record.”

Deryck Whibley, who has used the couple’s home studio to produce eight of the nine tracks she’s recorded so far. “I think this is taking the spirit of what she’s done on previous records so much further,” he says. “It’s way more meaningful, has more of an impact, more emotional. It makes me feel something more than the other stuff. And I wanted to match that musically with the track.”

-It was a song snippet called “Black Star” — intended for her fragrance commercial — that launched the recording process back in November; Lavigne played that intro and two complete tracks for EW called “Everybody Hurts” and “Darlin’.” The first has a trademark Lavigne acoustic beginning, then explodes into a loud chorus of “Everybody hurts some days.”

-"I always had material, but some people that I worked with didn’t really care, because they wanted to write the stuff,” she says, when asked why the tunes haven’t surfaced before. “Some people were just like, ‘Ah, whatever. You’re a little girl. What do you know?’ I know how this works. It’s my fourth record. It’s not rocket science. I think people doubted me before, and I’m finally just like, ‘I’m doing this.’”

-The rapping/Toni Basil affliction that plagued 2007’s The Best Damn Thing has left her system, and she’s back to the emo-heavy strengths of her first two albums. “[Best Damn Thing] was intended to be fun, to be rockin’,” she explains. “All I had in my mind was my live show, running around on stage, getting the crowd involved. This record, I just really, really wanted to really wanted to sing. We started recording each song, some of them, just with acoustic
guitar and the vocal and building it from there. It’s stripped down. I love performing that way, so I really felt like it was time to make a record like that. To just make it all about the vocal and the performance, and the vibe, and the emotion.”

-She’s thinking about doing a theater tour in support of the new album, so she can bring that emotion directly to the audience. “I just wanna have silence around me, and have these acoustic songs and really deliver,” she says.

-There’s more work to be done before the album release, but Lavigne doesn’t seem to be sweating it. “My new word right now is ‘balance,’” she says. “Work hard, play hard. Maybe that should be the album cover: Work Hard, Play Hard…Bitch.” With this, she cracks herself up again. “I swear to God I have not drank anything but green juice today,” she grins. “Why am I acting like this?” Part of it may be that the little sk8er girl is finally growing up, and feels comfortable — and demonstrably happy — making an album that reflects where she is in life right now. “I was always really honest in my lyrics,” she says, “I think more so when I was younger, and now it’s kind of come back to that. Just like, you know what? I’m not trying to write a perfect pop song. I’m just trying to write a song that’s honest right now, even if something sounds weird or a lyric might not make sense to someone.

Liverpool ace Fernando Torres says he enjoys boss Rafa Benitez's approach to man-management.

He said: "My biggest influence before playing for Rafa was Luis Aragones at Atletico Madrid. Luis was a real ball-buster if you weren't fully focused but
Rafa doesn't get as personal.

"Luis is a motivator who puts his entire personality into pushing you on but Rafa tries to use more professional management - he's always looking to improve every little detail in your game. He wants to improve every second you have on the pitch, every individual move you make in a game - but he wants you to understand why, too.

"Rafa's not a guy who just says 'Do that because I tell you to'. It's not like that. He'll say 'Do it for this reason. Do you understand?'. If you don't, he'll explain it all over again until you do. That's Rafa.

"I remember when I was first signed from Atletico there was a lot of doubt about me being a natural goalscorer and I was harshly criticised for not being prolific. But Rafa said 'I signed you to score and you will. I want you to play closer to the penalty box, that's where you'll get your goals'.

"He told me the wings were for the wingers and my job was to bother the central defenders. In fact, the entire process of coming to England has changed my
perspective on life hugely in the last couple of years.

'El Nino' believes that the Reds are lacking a vital, defense-wrecking element at present.

Fernando Torres has said that Liverpool need a particular kind of player to complete their squad: either a forward in the mold of Wayne Rooney and
Carlos Tevez, or a midfielder in the style of David Silva and Andres Iniesta.

According to The Sun, he said, "We lack players like Rooney and Tevez who can drop back between the lines of attack and midfield and cause havoc for
opposing defenses and midfields."

The Reds fell just short of Manchester United in their pursuit of a first Premier League title last term, due in no small part to their inability to

competitive.

Jamie Carragher was pleased to see Liverpool win on Sunday.

The Reds got their first win of pre-season under their belts with a 5-0 hammering of Singapore to the delight of Jamie Carragher.

Xabi Alonso has informed Liverpool that he would like to bring his five-year stint with the club to an end. Widespread reports claimed on Thursday morning that the Spanish midfielder had submitted a transfer request following weeks of speculation about his future. A club source has now confirmed the news, with Alonso having previously only told manager Rafa Benitez verbally that he wanted to leave Anfield.

Benitez had grown frustrated by the uncertainty surrounding Alonso, telling him earlier this week that he wanted the matter to be resolved quickly. Real Madrid have been monitoring Alonso's situation for much of the summer as they strive to strengthen their squad.

Liverpool have previously made it clear that it will take a fee of around £30million to prise the 27-year-old away from the club. Real have been reluctant to meet such a valuation but a transfer would now appear to be close. It is reported that a deal could be struck in the next couple of days for Alonso to join Real for a price in the region of £25million.

Alonso has enjoyed a successful spell in English football, having arrived at Liverpool from Real Sociedad in 2004.

After thrilling Thailand earlier in the week, Liverpool have spent the last few days sending Singapore crazy as they brought their pre-season tour of Asia to a successful end.
We may have thought the Singaporeans would be hard pressed to replicate the crazy scenes we witnessed in Bangkok, but nothing could have been further from the truth as they welcomed Rafa and his players with open arms.

Whether it was waiting for hours for a glimpse of the players at the team hotel, turning up at events across the island or lining the river bank in their thousands as the Reds enjoyed an afternoon cruise, the squad were big news everywhere they went.

With almost all of the first team squad in town, the Singapore Reds saw their wildest dreams come true as they met their heroes in the flesh and watched them in action in front of their starry eyes, as Rafael Benitez's side romped to a 5-0 win to land the Lion Cup.

"The welcome we recieved from the Singaporeans was outstanding," said LFC Commercial Director Ian Ayre. "In particular the effort that everyone made to turn out to wave to the players on the river cruise which was a unique and amazing sight.

"We knew beforehand that Liverpool Football Club was the best supported team in Singapore, but to see the route lined with thousands and thousands of passionate reds fans and to see all of our events and the match at the national stadium so well supported, was a testament to the real love that the people of Singapore have for this great club.

"It was a long time since we had been to Singapore but I think everyone involved in the tour hopes it's not too long before we are back again to see our great fans.

"Thank you Singapore."

The Liverpool party have arrived back on Merseyside following a gruelling 13-hour overnight flight from Singapore, and speaking on board the plane manager Rafael Benitez was keen to pay his own tribute to the Singapore fans who took the Reds to their hearts.

"On behalf of the players and staff of Liverpool Football Club, I'd like to thank all of our fans for the wonderful welcome we received in Singapore," he said.

"The support you gave to us again showed we have the best fans in the world.

"I hope you enjoy watching the team this season and that we can come back and see you soon."

Singapore came to a standstill when Rafa's Reds took advantage of some well earned rest by taking a cruise down the Singapore River. The Liverpool squad delighted more than 20,000 of their loyal fans who decked the river banks in red and white in anticipation of the three boats containing the Reds' party cruising into sight. Flags were waved, scarves were held high and songs were sung as the locals saluted their heroes as they made their way down the 11 kilometre stretch of water. The grand finale at the end of the route was capped with a brilliant rendition of 'You'll Never Walk Alone' as Singapore got the chance to pay homage to their favourite players.

Rafa Benitez today apologised to the Liverpool fans in Singapore after the Reds decided not to fly Steven Gerrard out for Sunday night's friendly.

Gerrard - who scored in Friday's 2-2 draw with Tranmere - is now free to concentrate on football after being found not guilty of affray yesterday, but Benitez insisted he cannot take the risk of bringing the Reds midfielder to Singapore at such short notice.

"We have to protect the player and the best thing for him to do is to rest at home," said Benitez.

"He has been under pressure this week and so it's important we do the right thing. I'm sorry for the fans that he can't come.

"He will keep working at home and join up with us again when we return next week.

"He's the captain of our team. He is a key player and I'm sure our fans over here will enjoy his goals during the season.

Liverpool crushed Singapore 5—0 on Sunday for their first win in four pre—season games with Fernando Torres and Andriy Voronin among the scorers. Albert Riera and promising young Hungarian striker Krisztian Nemeth also found the back of the net in the morale—boosting win. The Reds needed a victory to ramp up their preparations for the new season where they will start as one of the favourites to clinch their first title in 20 years after a credible second behind
Manchester United in the last campaign.

To the disappointment of fans here, Steven Gerrard missed the match after remaining in England following his acquittal over an alleged assault but Torres played 30 minutes in a return from his summer break. And in a potentially significant move, Real Madrid target Xabi Alonso came on with 13 minutes remaining. The unsettled 27—year—old didn’t play any part in their 1—1 draw with Thailand last week but held talks with Rafael Benitez on Friday to discuss his future and his appearance was an encouraging sign for Liverpool fans.

The Reds arrived here after a sluggish performance against Thailand which followed a 0—0 draw with St Gallen of Switzerland and a 1—0 loss to Rapid Vienna. Despite this Benitez had insisted their pre—season plans were progressing well but he will be relieved to finally get a victory.

Ryan Babel had an early chance when he rose to meet a cross from Daniel Agger only to direct his header straight at goalkeeper Hassan Sunny. Agger was in the thick of the action and fired a 30 yard drive just over the bar soon after as Liverpool pressed their advantage. They had most of the possession but badly missed Gerrard’s penetrating runs and were fortunate to take the lead on the stroke of half—time when Voronin unleashed a 20—yard strike that beat
the diving Hassan. They doubled their lead 10 minutes into the second half when Riera chested down a Javier Mascherano cross and tucked the ball into the net from six yards. Nemeth, one of the most talked about players in the Liverpool reserves, got his first goal for the senior side when he coolly planted his shot beyond the goalkeeper after Dirk Kuyt put him clear.

Singapore were flagging and crowd favourite Alonso was instrumental in the next, starting a move that Torres finished with an easy tap in before Nemeth completed the demolition with seven minutes left.

Liverpool fly back to England later Sunday with a friendly against Espanyol on August 2 their next action, a game that is expected to see the return of Gerrard.

Andriy Voronin put the Reds into the lead on the stroke of half-time with a deflected shot from distance before Albert Riera increased the visitors' advantage courtesy of a close-range volley shortly after the restart. Krisztian Nemeth helped himself to a late brace, with a Fernando Torres goal sandwiched in between as Liverpool went goal crazy in the Far East to claim the Lion Cup.

A pre-match rendition of You'll Never Walk Alone rang out inside the Singapore National Stadium before the game got underway, with the away side sporting their stylish new black away strip. Rafa Benitez took the chance to partner young centre-back Mikel San Jose with Jamie Carragher and handed Daniel Agger a role at left-back. After a tentative opening, Ryan Babel had the first opportunity of the game when he nodded David Ngog's cross goalwards, but Singapore goalkeeper Hassan Sunny was able to make a comfortable save. Noh Alam Shah saw a low strike blocked by Diego Cavalieri on a rare sortie forward from the home side, though Ngog was inches away from breaking the deadlock at the other end when he sent a looping header narrowly wide of the far post from Andriy Voronin's centre. The young French striker was looking lively and he was unfortunate to see a shot on the turn deflected over the bar by
Baihakki Khaizan on the half hour mark, after some excellent link-up play involving Yossi Benayoun. For all their possession, the Reds were struggling to break down a stubborn Lions rearguard.

However, the visitors finally opened the scoring in first-half stoppage time when Voronin's low drive from 25 yards took a deflection off Daniel Bennett to beat Sunny and put Liverpool into a well deserved lead heading into the break. Benitez made three changes during the interval, with Peter Gulacsi, Emiliano Insua and Riera replacing Cavalieri, Mikel San Jose and Babel. The Reds started the second period quickly and Benayoun clipped an attempt just over the bar from inside the box prior to Riera doubling Liverpool's advantage. Mascherano's deep cross from the right picked out the Spain winger, who chested the ball down and drilled an unstoppable volley beneath Sunny on 54 minutes. The Reds opted to make wholesale changes on the hour mark, with Torres taking to the field, much to the delight of the local fans who cheered his every touch. It wasn't long before Liverpool furthered their lead. Substitute Dirk Kuyt pounced on a wayward header before crossing for Nemeth, who dispatched a clinical shot into the bottom corner from 12 yards. With just under 15 minutes remaining, Xabi Alonso was handed his first-run out of pre-season after recovering from the ankle injury that had kept him out of the clash with
Thailand.

Moments later, the visitors made it four and it was the goal the whole stadium had been praying for as Torres got his name on the scoresheet. Kuyt was again the provider, racing into the box from the right and squaring across goal to give the Reds' No.9 the simple task of tapping home from close-range. The Dutch ace made it a hat-trick of assists on 83 minutes when he directed Agger's pass into the path of Nemeth, who headed beyond the Lions' replacement
custodian Lionel Lewis to make it 5-0 and put the seal on a fine evening's work for Liverpool.

Liverpool up and running after comfortable victory on Far East tour

Liverpool secured their first pre-season victory of the summer with a comfortable 5-0 rout of Singapore. Hungarian youngster Krisztian Nemeth bagged a brace for the Reds, while Andriy Voronin, Albert Riera and Fernando Torres were also among the goals. With Rafael Benitez including a number of unfamiliar faces, including goalkeeper Diego Cavalieri, defenders Mikel Dominguez and Philipp Degen and forward David Ngog in his starting line-up, the Reds struggled to assert themselves in the first half against a defensively-minded Singapore side. Ryan Babel rose above the Singapore defence to put a header straight at goalkeeper Hassan Sunny after seven minutes but apart from that, there was little to entertain the crowd in the first half as the Premier League side were restricted to shots from distance. There were some moments of concern for the Reds as Javier Mascherano twice went to ground after heavy challenges by
Mustafic Fahrudin and Noh Alam Shah and the hosts nearly took a shock lead in the 22nd minute when Shi Jiayi's through pass released Shahril Ishak whose weak shot was easily saved by Cavalieri.

But in stoppage time at the end of the half, Liverpool's opening goal arrived from out of the blue as Voronin got past the challenge of Fahrudin and, with the Singapore defence backing off, fired in an innocuous low shot that crept past a late-diving Hassan.

Improved

Buoyed by the unexpected goal, Liverpool were much improved after the break and extended their lead 10 minutes into the second half when Mascherano floated
in a fine cross from the right for Riera, who chested the ball down at the far post before firing a low shot past Hassan.

The fans were clamouring for an appearance by Torres and got their wish just after the hour when he was brought on with Dirk Kuyt in place of Yossi Benayoun and Ngog. It was the Dutchman that would make the bigger impression, though, setting up the last three goals, beginning in the 73rd minute when he crossed from the right for 20-year-old Nemeth to slide the ball past Hassan to make it 3-0. Alonso came on in the 77th minute for Daniel Agger and just three minutes later started the move that ended with Kuyt crossing for an unmarked Torres to apply the finishing touch from point-blank range for his first pre-season goal. And with seven minutes left, another Kuyt cross found Nemeth, who headed home his second of the game.

Benitez delighted by strong display

Rafa Benitez expressed his delight at the progress shown by Liverpool as they chalked up a 5-0 demolition of Singapore at the National Stadium.

The Reds gave a disjointed appearance in the first half but took the lead with the final kick before half-time when Andriy Voronin's long-range effort found the net. But the Premier League side were much improved after the break as a brace by young Hungarian striker Krisztian Nemeth and a goal each by Albert Riera by Fernando Torres sealed an emphatic win.

"Normally during the pre-season, you can see the team getting fitter each week. In this case, we have been in Asia for one week and it was really good," said Benitez just before the team jetted back to Europe. "Today, you could see that the team was stronger and fitter. Especially in the second half, when our opponents were a little bit more tired, we could play much better and we had more opportunities. "We still have three more games before we start the season against Tottenham so there's still plenty of time to decide on the team. The Spanish internationals and (Andrea) Dossena came in late as well so they will need some time to be ready."

Benitez was especially pleased with the performance shown by 20-year-old Nemeth who is in strong contention for a spot in the first team after coming off the bench to score twice in the Lion City. "He was really good two years ago for the reserve team, scoring a lot of goals but last year he had some problems with injuries," said Benitez of the prodigious Hungarian striker. "But he showed today that he's a good finisher and a player with a future. "It depends on the players always. If they're knocking on the door and they knock really hard, then I have to hear. This is important and it depends on them."

The Liverpool boss refused to be drawn on whether the Singapore match marked Xabi Alonso's last appearance for the club. The Spain midfielder came on with 13 minutes remaining for his first pre-season appearance and helped to begin the move that led to Torres' goal. However, Benitez felt that the question of whether the 27-year-old would stay or leave for Real Madrid had to be addressed to the player himself. "It's a question that you have to ask him," he said.
"Honestly, we've been talking about this for two months but I think that it is a question for him and not for us. "He has three years on his contract and we know he is a great player - that's why we signed him and renewed his contract. So you have to ask him." Benitez insisted that he will be leaving Asia with happy memories. "The fans have been amazing and it felt for us like we were back at Anfield," he said. "People here have been treating us with a lot of respect and you can see the passion. Sometimes you say it's too far (to travel to Asia) and you have one week away from your families but you can see the faces of the fans and you feel good to be out here. "When you've got fans saying that they've been waiting eight years to see you, you have to be pleased to be here." Such is the passion for the club in Asia that Benitez believes his side will enjoy a significant advantage if the Premier League ever manages to get its plan to play a 39th game in the region off the ground. "We normally play around 60 games a year so if were to play more game, it would have to be organised properly. But it's not our decision - the coaches and managers have to prepare the teams so it depends on other people. "But if we
have to play with these fans behind us all the time, it will be like playing at home."

Rafa Benitez believes the tour of Asia has left his players in great condition ahead of a renewed title assault in 2009-10. The team flew straight home after a 5-0 victory over Singapore in front of another fanatical crowd.

Torres rediscovered his scoring touch with a close-range strike while Krisztian Nemeth did his first-team chances no harm with a brace. Andriy Voronin and Albert Riera also got their names on the scoresheet - leaving Benitez with a sense of satisfaction at a job well done. "When you go to Asia sometimes you think it will be tough with all the travelling but it's been really good and the fans have been fantastic. The atmospheres have been great and everyone has wanted to help us," said the boss. "When you see the faces of the fans you know that it was good to come here. The fans were like in Anfield, amazing. "We've been here for a week and you could see that the team was stronger and fitter. "It was a good game, especially in the second half when we had more space and they were a bit tired. We could go forward and create more chances. "We worked hard and played at a high tempo with a professional mentality. "We won and scored a lot of goals so I think that will make the next game easier. "You can see that some of our players are a little bit tired, but the mentality and attitude was good. "If we can play these kind of games with this intensity, it will be really good to improve the condition of the players. We need to be a little bit sharper but I feel it's just a question of time."

A fitting way to end a memorable trip out to the Far East, to South-East Asia… one that will be cherished by many, many fans not only in Thailand & Singapore but across the Asia-Pacific region as a whole and even pockets of fans from the other continents as well. As trumpeted by the Singapore press, there was an online signature campaign to plead with Rafa to field his best XI. And Rafa did not disappoint by starting with a strong team, albeit some
surprises..

Cavalieri kept goal with Degen, Carragher, San Jose and Agger at left back. It was expected that Johnson was not to be risked. Mascherano and Lucas roamed the midfield in what would be the central pairing in case Alonso decides to pack his bags back for sunny Spain. Benayoun and Babel ran the flanks to support Voronin and Ngog. And we started out brightly, wearing our new Black Phantom away kit for the first time!! But the Singaporeans were equal to the task… stopping the supply line and even snuffing out the threat of Ngog. With the sun setting, the first half was drifting to a stalemate... before Voronin had other ideas. Latching on to a loose ball, he advanced and took a shot that took a wicked deflection past the Singapore keeper, cutely named Hassan Sunny.

If the crowd thought we were going to see a totally changed team, we were gladly mistaken as Rafa minimized the changes, with Gulacsi for Cavalieri, Insua for San Jose to allow Agger & Carra back in the middle, and lastly Riera, on for Babel. And very soon, the crowd was on their feet, cheering a good Riera goal, chesting down the ball smartly and slamming a low unstoppable shot past Mr Sunny.

Soon it was time for Torres-mania as the crowd rose to welcome El Nino onto the field at the hour mark. A full 30 minutes at least to stamp his presence. And it was a revamped side with Torres & Nemeth upfront while Kuyt and Riera ran the flanks. Plessis and Pacheco stayed central while Spearing slotted in at rightback. Martin Kelly was tried out with Agger in the heart of defence while Insua stayed on at the left. With such an attacking line-up, you can just feel the flood-gates opening… Singapore had their breaks too but they were expertly contained by Agger and co. Kuyt in the end would prove pivotal in our subsequent goals, providing the assists for Nemeth, Torres and Nemeth again to score. Torres had a couple more close misses to add to his tally…

Again, Rafa would turn up the volume in the stadium when Alonso made his entrance… “XABI ALONSO.. clap,clap.. clap,clap,clap.. XABI ALONSO.. clap,clap.. clap,clap,clap.. “

What a way to end the evening !!! Dossena too had a short run-about.

At the final whistle, most of the crowd stayed back to see the prize presentation and witness the players walk-about round the field, thanking the fans >> the vociferous Asian Reds who have certainly given LFC a lot to think about in terms of the enthusiasm and excitement generated.

Surely, there can never be any doubt whatsoever of the passion of Liverpool fans in these parts of the world..

RAFA'S REACTION TO GERRARD VERDICT:-

Rafa Benitez today admitted he was 'really pleased' after Steven Gerrard was found not guilty of affray at Liverpool Crown Court.

Benitez learned of the decision during a training session in the national stadium of Singapore.

Gerrard, 29, missed the Reds' Far East pre-season tour to attend court and will now meet up again with the squad on their return to Europe next week.

"We are really pleased," said the boss. "He is very important for us and he can now focus just on football. "We are all pleased at the club and over here at the training camp. "We have been supporting him all the time and were just waiting for the decision," added Benitez.

Gerrard figured in Liverpool's first two pre-season friendlies against St Gallen and Rapid Vienna before missing the game against Thailand. He will also be absent for the match against Singapore on Sunday, with his next action for the first-team expected to be against Espanyol in Spain on 2 August.

"Now he can concentrate just on football and hopefully play at the same level as last year."

On leaving court earlier today, Gerrard said: "I'm glad to put this case behind me. I'm really looking forward to the season ahead and concentrating on football. "I'd like to say a big thank you to my legal team, my friends and family and everyone at Liverpool Football Club for supporting me."

Meanwhile, back in Singapore Benitez welcomed back Yossi Benayoun and Xabi Alonso to full training this evening, but Glen Johnson missed the session with an Achilles problem.

"We have to be careful with Glen because he is still feeling his Achilles," added the boss.

"I was very happy to have Yossi and Xabi back. They were working very hard, the tempo of the session was fantastic and the fans really enjoyed it.

"We are trying to step up our training every day, especially for the international players. Today we had three teams playing against each other. It was good competition and pleasing for me to see."

TORRES AND CARRA SHAKE SINGAPORE

Singapore was treated to a double dose of Anfield magic this morning when Fernando Torres and Jamie Carragher sparked scenes of mass hysteria among their devoted supporters. Fans had camped out for hours to get the best views of their Liverpool idols, both of whom were in town to attend a special event organised by Carlsberg.

It was a day of many commercial activities for the Reds on the second leg of their far east tour, and those supporters at the Velocity Centre probably couldn't believe their luck when they were presented with two of Liverpool's most famous stars. As the players edged closer to their destination and as Justin, the local master of ceremonies, updated the fans with news on their whereabouts, cameras were at the ready and scarves hoisted aloft as thousands of faraway Kopites held their breath in anticipation of seeing their Kop heroes. Clearly a master at the art of whipping up the crowds, Justin was in his element as he beckoned the fans to belt out 'You'll Never Walk Alone' as well as the Torres bounce and 'Team of Carraghers'. By this stage the fans needed no persuading to display their huge passion for the Reds and then suddenly, just as YNWA was coming to an end, the people carrier transporting the Liverpool party came into view, sparking even more fervent flag waving, cheering and screaming.

"I love you Fernando," screamed one local, even though she hadn't yet seen him in the flesh. Merely the thought of him soon being within touching distance of her was proving too much to come to terms with.

Eventually both players emerged into the makeshift arena and looked genuinely moved by the incredible reception they received. Smiles were emblazoned on both players' faces as they acknowledged the warmth of their reception which, even for seasoned professionals like Torres and Carragher, must have come as a real shock to the system.

Liverpool's visit to Singapore had been relatively low key so far compared to the crazy scenes in Bangkok, but the Singaporeans responded in sensational fashion today and left Torres and Carragher in no doubts they're equally loved in this part of the world.

Once the mayhem had started to die down - many minutes after they arrived - pre-set questions were put to the players, with fans leaning forward and craning their necks to hang on the players' every word.

First up, though, was the opportunity for both players to address the locals with a personal greeting.

"Thank you Singapore," said Torres, at which point his voice could hardly be heard over the PA system, such was the reaction to his simple but effective message.

"What's the greatest lesson you've learned as a footballer?" was the first proper question to Carra. "To always be successful and always do your best," came the reply.

Then Torres was quizzed on what makes the perfect striker. The Spaniard looked a touch embarrassed, insisting no such player exists.

MC Justin soon put him straight, reminding him that, in fact, HE is the perfect striker - at which point the cheers and screams began again as Torres forced a shy smile, surely still shocked by the scale of the adulation heading towards him from every angle.

As the quick-fire question and answer session came to an end, Justin again took centre stage, asking the fans whether number 19 is coming home this season.

"Can we do it, Liverpool?"

"Yes"

"Can we do it? I can't hear you.

"Yes", screamed the fans, all of whom at this stage were probably having the best day of their lives.

Next on the agenda for the Anfield duo was a short walk into a Carlsberg bar (Harry's Bar) to attend a press conference staged by the local media. Sat in the corner of the pub, the two players spoke of their hopes for the season as well as their trip to Singapore.

"Are you ready to win your first game of pre-season," asked one excitable reporter.

"Hopefully, but points aren't at stake on Sunday," replied Carra. "We'll do our best and look to play well, but it's not the be all and end all at this stage." As usual, a sensible reply from the captain for the trip.

Carlsberg guests were then given a chance to have their Liverpool pictures, shirts and flags personally signed by the Anfield stars, while we took a chance to gauge the mood among the fans who were keeping their eyes firmly fixed on the Reds' star duo.

"I want to see Torres," said one girl. "I love him so much."

"Torres is my idol, I want to marry him," said another. Maybe she didn't know Fernando was married only a matter of months ago.

Torres shirts were everywhere but there was much support for Carragher as well as Singaporeans lapped up the chance to come face to face with footballers they have probably only ever previously seen on television.

As the players prepared to say their goodbyes at the end of a two-hour stay, the singing started up again as Singapore started shaking to the sound of Anfield's most famous sounds. Those at this event will never forget today. For the players it was a chance to once again thank those fans to whom Liverpool FC is everything, but for whom it is impossible to travel to watch the team play. And for the fans it was a chance to realise their wildest dreams.

Carlsberg don't usually do mass hysteria - but for one day only they made an exception, and Singapore loved it!

DAY 1 WITH THE REDS IN SINGAPORE

It's been a long day for Rafa Benitez and his players after saying goodbye to Thailand and hello to Singapore - and we've been with them every step of the way. We were hoping for milder temperatures compared to Thailand - but not a chance. It's boiling hot but let's hope we're not hit by an unexpected monsoon-like downpour, as was the case after the match last night which resulted in us conducting interviews with Fernando Torres and Philipp Degen in pools of water. Thanks for stopping for us, guys - and sorry if your feet were soaked through!

And fair play to Jamie Carragher who was happy to hang around in the pouring rain while the LFC TV team prepared to record a live post-match interview. Special mention also to Kenny Dalglish who, realising we didn't have the same luxury as the players of going into the dressing room to dry off, emerged with a towel to help us at least partly recover from the soaking. It's not every day you get to share a towel with a King.

As in Thailand, one day has been put aside in Singapore for the players to attend a number of commercial events. Fernando Torres, Jamie Carragher, Pepe Reina and Daniel Agger will be visiting a Carlsberg bar while Dirk Kuyt, Albert Riera, Emiliano Insua and Martin Kelly will be taking part in adidas related events. Javier Mascherano and Alvaro Arbeloa, meanwhile, will be taking part in a signing session at Courts store. On Saturday the entire squad will take a river cruise before attending a reception at the hotel and travelling to an electrical store in the evening. Add double training most days along with pre and post-match press conferences and we're set for a busy end to the week.

When the Reds arrived at Singapore airport they were greeted by a hoard of security guards at the foot of the plane, all of whom took the opportunity to produce their camera phones and break into a quiet rendition of 'You'll Never Walk Alone' as the players were taken away to a VIP lounge for refreshments.

After the welcome press conference in Thailand at which questions which could only be described as bizarre were fired at the Liverpool representatives, we weren't sure exactly what to expect when Rafa, Fernando and Yossi addressed the press shortly after arriving at the hotel. The media didn't let us down though, with the highlight being the final question from an Indonesian journalist who made a passionate speech to El Nino about how she shares the same love of music as our number nine after seeing him in a music video back in Spain. You couldn't make it up.

Rafa was asked to comment on Michael Owen's transfer to Manchester United in the press conference. He politely declined to answer the question. And the almost daily question about Xabi Alonso's future cropped up again, with the usual reply of 'he's here with us and he can enjoy the weather and the journalists' being the manager's reply. And another reporter asked if Singaporeans would see more than ten minutes of Torres on Sunday night. "He could play eleven or twelve minutes this time," joked Rafa.

The Reds enjoyed their first run-out on Singapore soil at the Jalon Bezar sports club in early evening. The full squad took part in the session, though of course Martin Skrtel and Nabil El Zhar were notable absentees after picking up injuries in Thailand. They will arrive back in England on Friday when they will undergo scans.

At the end of the session members of the Official Liverpool Supporters group branch in Singapore got a chance to meet their heroes pitchside and have their LFC related goodies signed. Commercial Director Ian Ayre accepted a plaque on behalf of the club thanking the Reds for visiting this part of the world. A nice touch.

Torres wants trophies

Fernando Torres wants to win silverware this season and is confident that Liverpool are good enough to win the Premier League title.

"I'm not thinking about personal targets for next season, the most important thing for me is to win trophies," said the Spanish striker. "That is why I came to Liverpool. "Two years without a trophy is a long time for Liverpool so maybe this season is even more important than the years before. It is a really big season for the club. "I am sure that this year we can win the Premier League or the Champions League - a big trophy like that. It won't be easy because there are big challenges ahead but we think we can win. "We have a fantastic squad and I know we can play better than last season.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard could miss next week's pre-season tour match in Singapore. The 29-year-old reportedly needs to appear in a Liverpool court next Monday, to answer charges relating to last December's brawl outside a nightclub.

The Reds are scheduled to play against the Thai national team next Wednesday, before featuring against our Singapore Lions on the 26th at the National Stadium. And this was to be his 1st ever trip to the Lion City as he'd missed out the previous outing against Singapore in 2001, due to injury.

Organisers of the Asian Tour are still hopeful of Stevie G's appearance, pending his legal commitments.

In related team news,

Fans in Singapore who're looking to watch the Reds in their only public training session, can do so next Friday from 7pm onwards at the National Stadium.

The 90 minute workout was originally planned for the Jalan Besar Stadium.

But due to traffic and safety concerns for players and the fans alike, the training session has been moved to Kallang instead.

8 years ago, more than 5,000 local supporters jam-packed the Bishan Stadium to catch the likes of Michael Owen, Robbie Fowler and Jamie Redknapp during training.

Gerrard out of Thai trip:-

Liverpool player Steven Gerrard will not play in the Reds' friendly match against Thailand on Wednesday evening. Gerrard has remained in England to fight an affray charge at Liverpool Crown Court, with the rest of the squad due to arrive in Bangkok this afternoon.

Liverpool captain Gerrard's court case begins:-

Prosecutors told a jury Tuesday that Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard lost his cool in a nightclub and aimed a succession of punches at a man who wouldn't let him take charge of the music.

The England midfielder went on trial Tuesday at Liverpool Crown Court on a charge of affray. The prosecution told the jury Gerrard was one of several men who attacked 34-year-old Marcus McGee, who had refused to hand over control of a CD player.

Hours after Gerrard had scored twice in Liverpool's 5-1 victory over Newcastle, he was with friends at the Lounge Inn in Southport in the early hours of Dec. 29 last year when his party clashed with McGee.

Prosecutor David Turner said Gerrard asked McGee for the card controlling the CD player so he could change the music but the man refused. Turner said Gerrard's mood then changed and he went back and confronted McGee and the two men stood head-to head "in the sort of hostile confrontation that is often seen between professional footballers."

Turner said Gerrard's friends also joined in and one of them pushed McGee and followed up putting his elbow into his face.

"We say at this stage Gerrard totally lost it," Turner said. "Almost immediately after the blow .… in fact within seconds, Steven Gerrard joined in the attack with a succession of well aimed uppercut punches delivered with the style and speed of a professional boxer rather than a professional footballer."

Gerrard denies the charge. Five other men pleaded guilty and another admitted a lesser charge of threatening behaviour. The trial is expected to last several days.

Before it started, Judge Henry Globe said the jury panel brought in to try the case would have to put aside their soccer loyalties and give a true verdict according to the evidence.

Steven Gerrard apologises for punching man in bar:-

The Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard claimed today he had been acting in self-defence when he punched a man in a row over music. The England international told Liverpool crown court that he punched Marcus McGee three times during a clash at a bar in Southport. He said that he had struck the man "to defend myself", fearing he was about to be hit by McGee. Gerrard, 29, who denies affray, said that, at the time, he was unaware one of his friends, John Doran, had landed the first blow, elbowing McGee in the face. "I thought he was going to hit me," Gerrard said. "He was on his way forward to me and his behaviour had changed from when I was having a discussion with him. I didn't know why."

Asked how he felt now, the footballer added: "I am certainly mistaken in thinking he was coming towards me to throw punches at me. Now I know, obviously, he had been struck, reacted and thought the strike was by me and he came into me and that's when I reacted. "I am sorry about the whole incident."

Gerrard denied that he had lost control on the night of the fight. He had been drinking at the Lounge Inn in Southport to celebrate a 5-1 victory over Newcastle earlier that day. The footballer had been drinking Budweiser and a sweet liqueur drink called a Jammy Donut shot, estimating his level of drunkenness as seven out of 10. Gerrard remained calm and quietly spoken as he gave evidence, repeatedly sipping a glass of water as he stood in the witness box. "It was very difficult at the time to explain to the police why I did throw the first blows. But it was because I was arguing and I felt as if Marcus was coming forward to hit me."

He told the jury he had been used to people "mithering" him and he was usually able to smooth things over. Gerrard said he suffered "a lot of mither" at traffic lights, shopping centres, bars and restaurants and the comments can be "derogatory or insulting". He admitted calling McGee "a prick" to one of his friends when he refused to change the music. During the conversation with McGee, 34, he claimed the man swore at him, saying: "You are not putting no fucking music on here."

Gerrard said a member of staff at the bar had given him permission to choose music from a CD player that his alleged victim was operating. A card that controlled the music was snatched from his hand by McGee, he said. "I couldn't understand why the guy had such a problem with me, why he was so aggressive," he said. Gerrard said that when he went over to speak to McGee for a second time, he had no intention of having a fight but wanted to "smooth things over". Gerrard told the court he had a conviction for drink-driving when he was 19 but had not been in any other trouble with the police. Gerrard welled up with tears as a statement from Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish was read out. Dalglish described Gerrard as "not the archetypal footballer. He does not like to move in movie star circles."

He described him as "quiet" and "very private." Despite his wealth, Dalglish said, Gerrard has "never forgotten his roots." "He is a very respectful man who has always behaved to senior players in a respectful way," Dalglish said. "He is a very humble man." Dalglish, who had earlier met Gerrard on the night of the incident, said he had been with a group of boys who were "normal, polite, eating sushi and enjoying themselves". The footballer said Gerrard had become involved in his wife Marina's charity for breast cancer and had been a guest of honour at a Hillsborough memorial match.

William Bygroves, the chaplain at Liverpool football club, said in a statement he had known Gerrard since he was a youth. "I have seen him mature into a kind, mature, generous, community minded family man." The chaplain said Gerrard had shown interest in those less fortunate than himself. Bygroves said Gerrard was always generous when meeting children at Alder Hey children's hospital and had worked on an anti-racism campaign with Gee Walker, the mother of murder victim Anthony Walker. He described Gerrard as a warm-hearted genuine person.

Cross-examined by David Turner QC, for the prosecution, Gerrard was asked to show the jury how he hit McGee. He gently lifted his right arm to demonstrate the uppercut. Asked by Turner if he was sickened by what he did, Gerrard replied: "I am certainly sorry."

The jurors are expected to be sent out to consider their verdict tomorrow.

The Liverpool striker and his wife Olalla looked delighted as they showed off their first child outside the Policlinico hospital in Galicia, Spain. The baby girl named Nora was delivered on Wednesday, 8th JuLy weighing a bouncing 8lb 4oz.

Torres married Olalla Domínguez Liste on 27 May 2009 in El Escorial, Community of Madrid, with whom he has been in a relationship with since 2001. It was revealed in February 2009 that the couple was expecting a baby, which they later confirmed to be a girl. Olalla gave birth to a daughter, Nora Torres Domínguez, on 8 July 2009 at the Hospital La Rosaleda Compostelan, in Santiago de Compostela.

Olalla, 23, was keen to give birth in her home region of Galicia. The newly wed couple have been an item for eight years and lived together in Madrid before moving to the UK. They were married in a private ceremony with just two guests at the end of May in the local town hall in El Escoril, a suburb north of Madrid. Torres, 25, has become one of the world's greatest strikers since signing for Liverpool for £20million from Atletico Madrid, in July 2007.

The 25-year-old, nicknamed El Nino (The Kid), helped Spain win the European Football Championship last year. He grew up in Madrid but spent every summer in the seaside town of Estorde, in Galicia in north-west Spain - where Olalla's family also visited for summer vacations.
Olalla is studying social education at UNED, the Spanish equivalent of the Open University.

Liverpool FC fans can catch their idols cruising along the S'pore River on July 25

THE National Stadium will not be the only place Liverpool fans can get a glimpse of the Reds when they come to town. Fans of the Merseyside club will get the unique opportunity to catch the five-time European champions on the Singapore River ahead of their showdown against the Singapore football team on July 26. Steven Gerrard, Fernando Torres and the rest of the Liverpool squad are set to arrive later this month for their match against the Lions
at Kallang. On July 25, the footballers will play tourists as they travel down the river. The 1.30pm river cruise will see the Reds riding on three boats which will take them from The Fullerton Hotel to Liang Court, and back. The route - which will feature both Boat and Clarke quays - will offer ample viewing spots on both sides of the river, as well as on the many bridges
that the river runs under.

Strategic Sports Investments (SSI), a Profitable Group company, which is organising the Reds' tour of Singapore, said it had toyed with the idea of organising an open-top bus ride down Orchard Road. But we figured it will create chaos with cars potentially stopping on the busy street,' said Mr Steve McMahon, SSI's commercial director and former Liverpool favourite.

The river cruise is not only a uniquely Singaporean idea, showcasing the sights of Singapore, but it is also a great way to give as many Singapore Liverpool fans as possible a chance to catch their team in a more intimate setting. A highlight of the cruise will be a community singing of the Reds' anthem, You'll Never Walk Alone, as the boats cruise by. With the team on a tight schedule, the cruise will be one of the rare opportunities the public will get to catch the Reds apart from the July 26 match.

On January 28, 1819, Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles stepped ashore on the northern bank of the Singapore River. With his foresight and guidance, the Singapore River has grew into a peaceful and scenic tourist attraction, where Singapore's history and its beginning are still remembered.

Manchester United is delighted to announce that it has signed Michael Owen on a two-year contract. The striker was out of contract, so no transfer fee is involved. Sir Alex Ferguson said: "Michael is a world class forward with a proven goalscoring record at the highest level and that has never been in question. Death of Michael Jackson:-

Michael Jackson suffered cardiac arrest at his home in Holmby Hills, Los Angeles, California on June 25, 2009. He was treated by paramedics at the scene, but was pronounced dead at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center two hours later. His personal physician, Conrad Murray, says he found Jackson in bed, not breathing but with a faint pulse, and administered CPR to no avail. Initial reports indicated that Jackson died one hour after receiving an injection of pethidine (Demerol), a painkiller he had allegedly been addicted to for 20 years. Murray has said he did not prescribe or furnish Jackson with Demerol. Report: Liverpool's Fernando Torres Marries Childhood Sweetheart In Front Of Just Two Guests:-

The Spanish forward travelled to his homeland for the low-key ceremony last Wednesday...

According to a report in the British tabloid The Daily Mirror, Liverpool' striker Fernando Torres has married his childhood sweetheart, Olalla Dominguez.
Apparently, the 25-year-old Spain international and 23-year-old Olalla, who is seven months pregnant, travelled to a small town called El Escorial north of Madrid last Wednesday (27th May '09) where the low-key wedding was played out. So secret was the ceremony that the couple, who have been together for eight years, wed in front of only two guests.

A source said: "It was hardly a ceremony fit for a superstar. It was small and romantic, but there was nothing glam about the day at all."

Olalla, who studies the equivalent of an Open University course, last year described Torres as, "a very shy and a very good person. He is the man
of my life."

It is claimed that the pair may throw a much larger celebration at a later date.
"Fans expect something lavish from a local hero. They may be planning a bigger public do," the inside source added.

Football:- Torres signs improved Liverpool contract

LIVERPOOL: Liverpool striker Fernando Torres signed an improved contract with the Premier League club on Thursday.

Torres, 25, was handed the wage increase as a reward for his superb displays this season, which helped Rafa Benitez's side finish second in the Premier League behind champions Manchester United. The new deal, believed to be worth around 90,000 pounds a week, also includes the option of a further year's extension to Torres's current contract, which is due to expire in June 2013.

Spain international Torres scored his 50th goal for Liverpool in the victory over Tottenham on the final day of the Premier League season and is widely regarded as one of the best strikers in the world.

"Fernando Torres has agreed a new, improved contract with Liverpool, reflecting his standing as one of the world's top strikers," the club's website confirmed.

If Torres had been able to avoid injuries that sidelined him at several key stages of the season, Liverpool would have been in a strong position to end their 19-year wait to win the English title. And Benitez believes the best is yet to come from Torres because he remains hungry to learn more about his position.

"Fernando is one of the best strikers in the game today and, at his age, can only get better," Benitez said.
"Every major side would want him in their team, but he has shown how much he wants to achieve success at Liverpool by committing his future to the club. He's a special talent, but still has the hunger to improve his game."

Torres joins Steven Gerrard, Dirk Kuyt and Daniel Agger in agreeing new deals at Anfield over the past two months.

Benitez added: "We've made huge progress this season and now we need to take the next step. We are building something special here and securing such important players on long-term deals means we can move forward with confidence. "This sends out a very positive message to everyone connected with the club."

TORRES: WHY I SIGNED NEW DEAL

Fernando Torres today revealed how a special bond with the Kop was key in him agreeing a new deal at Anfield.

The Spain international has improved the terms of a six-year contract originally signed when he arrived in July 2007. This reflects his reputation as one of the world's top strikers.

El Nino has bagged 50 goals in 83 appearances since joining from Atletico Madrid. He also scored the winner as Spain lifted the Euro 2008 trophy last summer, helping to secure a Ballon d'Or nomination.

"I want to remain here," said Torres. "Since arriving at Liverpool I feel that there's a bond and commitment.
"We listened to the club's offer, which came on the back of two seasons of positive work.
"My objective now is to win a trophy with Liverpool next year."

The new deal includes an option to extend his stay a further year to 2014.

LiVeRpOoL "Grandstand Tix!!" Aarrgghh!! WooHoo!! *Excited* Gettin' the tix wasnt soo easyy!! Let me tell u the lil adventure i went thru to own it!! =)

Okiezz.. In case u dunno, they start sellin' the tix on 22nd May & noo.. im not the 1st to buy it!! haha.. Went to work dat dae & i was soo scared it wld be sold-out by the time i end work lahzz..!! Quickly head down to Courts wit Fad after work.. BUT!! Unfortunately, they are not sellin' the "Grandstand" tix there & the tix are sellin' out fast!! *faints* I was soo anxious to get it soo i asked the salesperson how to get it, etc.. They said i gotta call the "Profitable Group:- Strategic Global Investment" main office for more enquiries.. I called em & luckily, their office closin' @ 9pm!! Soo, i still got time to rush down there!! Went to taxi stand & many ppl queuin' soo we walked further down & Fad quickly flag a cab for me.. & Guess wat..?! I happened to get the "Black Limo Cab!!" =) Its soo nice lahzz.. & i went alone coz Fad got somethin' on laterr dat nite.. Finally, reached the place & i asked the "Limo" cab driver ( a mly Uncle) to wait for me outside coz its kinda deserted & dark coz its oreadi nite & most shophouses are closed by then).. & he did wait for me.. Luckily, he switched off the meters!! hahaz.. If not, noo freakin' idea watz the fares gonna cost.. Soo, i went in & there's some "Liverpool Fans" too.. We need to fill up the form (maybe onli applies to the "Grandstand Tix") & its based on 1st-come-1st-serve basis.. I gotta wait a while for my turn.. & Guess wat i saw..?! Torres, Tevez, Shearer & some others jerseys posters wit their signatures hangin' on the wall!! Damn!! I want Torres & Tevez ones lahzz!! *Grins Evilly* & Finally, its my turn!! Bought the "Grandstand Lower" Tix which cost $88.. I dunno why "Grandstand Red" cost $188 even though the seats are more behind than "Grandstand Lower".. Oohh..!! Maybe coz its beside the "VIP" seats!! Wow..!! Dun tell me Steven Gerrard & Company gonna seat there..?! *faints* Anyways, i choose "Grandstand Lower" coz its muchh more nearer to the field!! Im happyy coz Barca kick Chelsea Ass outta the final!! hahaz.. i was hopin' Barca wld win & they did!! Their score was 1-1.. But Barca won based on away goal!! Man Utd beats Arsenal an aggregate score of 4-1!! *Grins Evilly* =)

Last nitez, i watched "BPL 08/09:- Liverpool vs West Ham Utd"!! WooHoo!! My team wins 3-0!! Scored twice by Gerrard & once by Babel!! Torres did an awesome job of passin' the ball to Gerrard which he did scored in less than 2mins after the kick-off!! =) & 1 damn player in West Ham hauled down Torres in the penalty area & therefore, my team gets a penalty kick!! & Gerrard scored it!! Yeahh!! Eventually, the goalkeeper saved Gerrard's spot-kick but the rebound fell to the Liverpool captain to tap home!! Ryan Babel made sure of the victory with time running out as he fired home at the second attempt after the goalkeeper had saved his initial header!! =)
